2 Places to Take a Dip in Niagara Falls

Girls in pool Niagara Falls is all about water — how could it not be when more than 6 million cubic feet of the stuff goes over the falls every minute — so many families come to this vacation hotspot hoping to get a little wet. While most of the best views of the falls, like the Maid of the Mist or the Journey Behind the Falls, promise to spray some famous Niagara mist your way, there are also plenty of spots where you’re welcome to don your swimsuit and jump in. If you’re looking for places to splash around in the Niagara area, you don’t have to look for long. Here are the best swimming spots around Niagara Falls.

Windmill Point Park

If your family loves the outdoors, Niagara already looks like an ideal vacation destination with its gorgeous natural scenery in the lush national parks, but Windmill Point kicks up the allure with 45 acres of natural recreation opportunities. Windmill Point Park and Campground is a revitalized quarry where traveling families are invited to come for the day or stay for the week. The camping facilities are perfectly clean and updated, meaning you won’t exactly be roughing it while you’re living in the great outdoors, but the camp organizers welcome day visitors as well if you’d rather shack up in a hotel with a few more creature comforts.

When it comes to natural swimming opportunities, Windmill Point can’t be beat. The park’s pools and creeks are naturally spring-fed by clear and calm waters, and lifeguards are always on duty to make certain swimmers are absolutely safe. Plus, the quarry offers soft sand perfect for sandcastle contests or even just laying out in the warm summer sun.

If you like a little more challenge in your wet and wild activities, Windmill Point also offers scuba diving and snorkeling. The calm waters are perfect for first-time or novice divers or snorkelers, and there is plenty see in the quarry’s depths, like fish, lost treasures, and more. However, you should note that Windmill Point does not supply scuba or snorkel equipment, and if you are planning a lone scuba dive during the day — meaning you won’t be accompanied by an instructor — you will need to supply proof of your scuba certification.
